European Solidarity Corps

The European Solidarity Corps is a new initiative of the European Union that offers young people the opportunity to volunteer, do traineeships or various types of vocational training or employment for a period of between 2 and 12 months.

The creation of the Corps was announced by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in a speech to the European Parliament in September 2016. In May 2017, the European Commission proposed to allocate €341.5 million to the European Solidarity Corps for the period 2018-2020, in order to involve 100 000 young people from Europe by the end of 2020.

timeline

European Solidarity Corps projects are aimed at young people aged between 18 and 30, and are usually based in the European Union.

The aim of the European Solidarity Corps is to offer young people the opportunity to help those in need, to contribute to solving societal problems and to work towards a more inclusive society, so that they can gain valuable experience that will inspire them to further their development and personal growth. For example, young people should have the opportunity to help in the aftermath of natural disasters or to work with asylum seekers or people with disabilities.
