Unlocking Youth Civic Engagement for a Sustainable Future
The GreenScape Project, an Erasmus+ project, reimagines civic education through a virtual escape room that places young Europeans at the heart of democratic action.
It is often forgotten that climate change is also a generational challenge. The GreenScape Project was born from the belief that young people deserve both a seat and a voice at the decision-making table.
Fostering civic values, engagement, and youth participation is at the center of our project, by linking policy, research, and practice in a meaningful way. Greenscape encourages young people to become proactive in shaping their future with a focus on climate justice by engaging them in an immersive, interactive virtual Escape Room experience.
Our goal is to encourage young people to become active citizens, building a greener Europe through youth-driven ideas and democratic participation. We intend to :
- Raise Awareness of European Youth Goals and EU Processes.
- Educate participants on the European Youth Goals (1-10) and provide insight into EU institutions and decision-making processes.
- Build Key Skills for Civic Engagement.
- Develop critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership skills, empowering youth to actively participate in EU decision-making and civic life.
- Encourage Environmental Responsibility and Advocacy
- Inspire a commitment to environmental sustainability, emphasizing the role of youth in championing and shaping EU policies for a greener future.
How we built GreenScape :
- Work package n°2 – GreenScape Theoretical Framework for shaping the Educational Escape Room Experience
- Work package n°3 – GreenScape Room Designing and Development
- Work package n°4 – Launching and Testing through Civic Education on EU Decision-Making Training Activities
To achieve this, the project draws on an innovative educational framework that blends immersive learning and civic engagement:
- Interactive learning through gamification: Using a virtual escape room to spark curiosity, teamwork, and critical thinking around climate justice and policy-making.
- Role-play based civic simulation: Participants embody diverse characters involved in EU processes, gaining insights into institutional roles and responsibilities.
- Collaborative problem-solving: Realistic challenges and puzzles encourage cooperation and active participation, reinforcing democratic values.
- Immersion in EU decision-making: Youth simulate debates and negotiations inspired by real-life legislative procedures within European institutions.
- Pedagogical grounding: Activities are built on educational theories such as experiential learning and constructivist approaches.
GreenScape transforms education into action — giving young Europeans the tools and experience to lead on climate and democracy, for a greener, fairer tomorrow!
The project started on June 1st, 2024 and will be accomplished by May 31st, 2026.
Total project budget: 250,000.00 euros.
