Unlocking Youth Civic Engagement for a Sustainable Future

The GreenScape Project is an Erasmus+ project dedicated to empowering young people through a unique, immersive Virtual Escape Room experience focused on climate justice and sustainability. By engaging participants in interactive challenges aligned with the European Youth Goals, the project provides hands-on insight into EU policy and the importance of active citizenship.

Climate change is not only an environmental challenge — it is also a generational one . The GreenScape Project was born from the belief that young people deserve both a seat and a voice at the decision-making table.

Fostering civic values, engagement, and youth participation is at the core of the project, by linking policy, research, and practice in a meaningful way. Through six interactive Educational Modules and a Virtual Escape Room ( VER ), GreenScape encourages young people to become proactive in shaping their future, with a focus on climate justice.

Our goal is to inspire young people to become active citizens , contributing to a greener Europe through youth-driven ideas and democratic participation. To achieve this, we aim to:

  • Raise Awareness of European Youth Goals and EU Processes — Educate participants on the European Youth Goals (1–10) and provide insight into EU institutions and decision-making processes.
  • Build Key Skills for Civic Engagement — Develop critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership skills, empowering youth to actively participate in EU decision-making and civic life.
  • Encourage Environmental Responsibility and Advocacy — Inspire a commitment to environmental sustainability, emphasizing the role of youth in championing and shaping EU policies for a greener future.

How we built GreenScape:

  • Work Package 2 – GreenScape Theoretical Framework for shaping the Educational Escape Room Experience
  • Work Package 3 – GreenScape Room Design and Development
  • Work Package 4 – Launching and Testing through Civic Education on EU Decision-Making Training Activities

The project draws on an innovative educational framework that blends immersive learning and civic engagement through three core priorities:

  • Priority 1Engaging Participation through Experiential Learning:  The GreenScape Escape Room engages participants in hands-on learning, turning education into an active experience. Each puzzle and challenge reflects the European Youth Goals, transforming participants into responsible citizens prepared to take meaningful action. This interactive setting provides insights into EU decision-making, helping youth understand the connections between policy and personal or collective action.
  • Priority 2, Bridging Policy, Research, and Practice: By bringing European Youth Goals into a real-life, interactive format, GreenScape makes policy goals accessible and tangible for young participants, allowing them to actively work through challenges aligned with these priorities.
  • Priority 3. Emphasizing Climate Justice and Urgent Action:  GreenScape immerses participants in challenges that underscore the need for immediate action on climate change. Participants become active agents in the fight for a sustainable future, gaining both the knowledge and motivation to advocate for meaningful change.
GreenScape transforms education into action — giving young Europeans the tools and experience to lead on climate and democracy, for a greener, fairer tomorrow.

The project started on June 1st, 2024 and will be completed by May 31st, 2026.

Total project budget: €250,000.00
